Adidas KOTR – this weekend running highlight

This weekend’s definite highlight for Thailand runners is the Adidas King of the Road 2013 (KOTR) event on Sunday September the 8th. This race attracts some speedy runners of high standard to compete the 16.8 km distance alongside the runway of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok.

This odd distance race has been full for long and closed its registration months ago. KOTR’s popularity is probably due to the flashy Adidas gears included in the reasonable entry fee. In addition, the organiser has lowered the limit of maximum participants this year to avoid the congestion from last year’s race.

For the top runners, there are some decent money to race for. Winners of the 16.8k race receive cash awards of 16,800 THB for male and female alike as well as for international and Thai runners. For the Thais, there are also two spots for both men and women in the KOTR Southeast Asia Championship in Malaysia later this year at stake.

For those of you who manage to sign up on time, good luck! For those of us who didn’t, there are plenty other races ahead 2013!
