Intense Weekend
Two Bangkok races were cancelled this weekend due to the protests in the city. The organizers of the Thai Sikh Mini Marathon announced early last week that the race was postponed, new date is Feb 23 next year. The RU 42nd Anniversary Mini Marathon waited until Friday before it was announced cancelled. As Saturday night and Sunday morning turned out, the cancellation was indeed the right decision. Ramkhamhaeng University, where I used to study, was namely the place where the clashes got worst with 4 casualties and several wounded as a result.
There were however, other Bangkok races that took place according to schedule: The C-Vitt Run For Better Life in Lumpini Park (well organized, review will follow), Suan Luang Rama 9 Park Walk-Run (not as well organized), Run For Your Breath (the odd race distance of 5.24km was a bit short in reality, Kenyan domination) and the Aspire Fun Run (a relaxed fun run that will be held again in Feb next year).
Challenge Laguna Phuket (the second half of the Challenge Laguna Phuket Tri-Fest) was held on Sunday December the 1st, a great triathlon event, just as excepted. Kao-Cha-Ngok Super-Half Marthon in Nakhon Nayok was another interesting running event. Princess awards ceremony for the top finishers of the hilly, challenging but beautiful 32 km course.
A lot of uncertainties about the Bangkok situation, people were recommended to stay inside from 10 PM last night until 5 AM this morning (a 6 AM run should still be ok then…). Run safe everyone!
