Khon Kaen Marathon

The 11th Khon Kaen Marathon is one of five “Thailand Majors” according to TAT‘s Marathons Throughout Thailand. Khon Kaen always attracts a strong field of runners and this year’s race was maybe faster than ever. Charles Kimutai Kigen won the marathon in 2.17.09 and there were three others runners under 2.18. Also the half was a close race, Daniel Kiarie Gachui took first place in 1.04.23 with three other Kenyans within 9 seconds behind. Results and race review will follow soon.

As there is a State of Emergency in the capital since Wednesday, the two Bangkok races GSPA-NIDA Mini Marathon and Nurse College Mini Marathon were postponed. There was however another running event taking place in Lumpini Park on Sunday, namely the Friends of Greg Run. This was no official race but a fundraiser for Coach Greg who was hit by a drunk driver while cycling. Greg was seriously injured and is now fighting to recover. His family, friends and athletes organized this 5 and 10 km run to support and raise funds.
