Midnight Run Vs Thailand Ultra Marathon
This weekend’s perhaps largest events, Thailand Ultramarathon and Amari Midnight Run, are two completely different type of races. “Same same but different”.
Distance
- Midnight Run: Mini marathon of 12k and a 6k run.
- Thailand Ultra: Ultra marathon of 74k (cut down from 100k).
Race Course
- Midnight Run: Road race. Flat. The route is surrounded by skyscrapers, bars, street vendors and shopping malls right in the middle of Bangkok City.
- Thailand Ultra: Off-road race. 3,900 meters elevation gain. You run through the jungle and remote hill tribe villages in Mae Hong Son in northern Thailand. The route offers scenic mountain views and beautiful nature.
Challenges/Obstacles
- Midnight Run: Cars, motorbikes, Tuk-Tuks, other runners, traffic junctions and drunkards.
- Thailand Ultra: Hills, snakes, mosquitoes, spiders, centipedes etc. The initial 100k route was shortened to 74k because the safety patrols couldn’t drive on some of the roads.
Participants
- Midnight Run: A fun charity event like this attracts a lot of recreational runners, companies and all kinds of people. Last year the midnight run had over 7,000 registrations.
- Thailand Ultra: If you sign up for a challenging 100k run, you better have at least some running experience. There will be around 50 hard-core runners coming to start, let’s see how many finishers.
Starting Time
- Midnight Run: 00:00, midnight between Saturday (Oct 18) and Sunday (Oct 19).
- Thailand Ultra: 06:00 AM on Saturday (Oct 18).
