This was a strange weekend, to say the least. Malls closed, protests reached a tipping point, and races were cancelled throughout the city, including the mini marathon at Ramkhamhaeng University that I had planned to run. With a trip to Sri Lanka right around the corner, I had wanted to get into a race this weekend. I searched Run Thailand to find another and noticed the C-Vitt Run for Better Life. It was a 4k fun run in Lumpini Park with free entry. Best of all—the selling point—it started at 4 pm.

Although race got a late start, it otherwise went absolutely smoothly. In fact, this was one of the better—if not the best—organized races I have ever run in Thailand. The C-Vitt crew put a lot of thought and effort into making it a success. Bright, easy-to-read signs marked the course clearly. There were 2 water stops per loop, and 4 in total. Volunteers kept track of who had received ribbons and who had not. Music pumped through speakers and everyone seemed to have a great time. It was a friendly and inviting atmosphere marked by the camaraderie of people running for the sake of running.

I had expected a small affair lacking in support. But instead I found a well-designed race that was just as much of a party as it was an athletic event. C-Vitt gave out nice prizes to the top 3 men and women (I have enough juice to last a month) and handed out vouchers and gift baskets to lucky winners. The C-Vitt Run for Better Life 4k was exactly what runners in Bangkok needed.
