River Kwai Half Marathon 2013
It has become a tradition to go to Sai Yok in Kanchanaburi to run the River Kwai International Half Marathon. First time running this race was three years ago, this was my first ever half marathon and also my first ever half marathon win.
It’s a scenic course with mountainous nature and lush forest along the route. The surrounding is ignored though when the race mode is switched on. Today I had only two things in mind during the race; run to the U-turn and then get back to the finish as fast as possible. The second half of the race is always much faster, especially at the relatively steep down sloping parts when you can press the autopilot button. I clocked 1.14 today, still some work to do to beat former London Marathon winner Mike Gratton’s course record of 1.11.
This was my forth River Kwai race and my forth consecutive win. Participating in this event is a nice yearly tradition, but I like the tradition of winning it even more.
