Runventure – Bangkok to Ayutthaya

Runventure Bangkok to Ayutthaya

Some of the best and worst decisions of my life began to take shape when I was drinking.

A couple of weeks ago, I went out on the town with Randy, my running buddy and close friend. After a couple of beers, he mentioned an idea for a really epic run that had been on his mind—he wanted to run from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, at least 66 kilometers, and he wanted me to do it, too. How could I say no? I had never done anything like this before; if a run of such magnitude was going to happen in my life, then it was going to happen in Thailand.

We shared the idea to our friend and teammate Bryan, and then discussed it with Natt, our sponsor at Brooks Thailand. He loved it! He wanted to do something not just for us, but for the whole running community in Bangkok. So, here is the deal:

  • At 3 am on October 13, Randy and I will start running from Phaolyothin MRT. We’ll run north from there, ending at Wat Mahathat smack dab in the center of Ayutthaya.
  • Before the run, anyone currently in Thailand can post how long they think it will take us to finish the run on the Brooks Runventure event page. The two people who guess closest to the actual time will win a Brooks running shirt! Guess the time, win a shirt. It’s that easy.
  • We’ll be wearing Brooks Nightlife shirts and shorts. This week only, all Nightlife apparel purchased through the Brooks Thailand Facebook page will be 30 per cent off! If you have never tried it before, you really should: Nightlife not only wicks away sweat, it also makes you clearly visible to motorists. It’s bright, reflective and, like all Brooks products, super comfortable.
  • We’ll post pictures and videos during the run. Follow along with us on Facebook! Or, if you prefer, run with us! Seriously. The route is posted on the Runventure page. Join us for 5k or 50k. We’d love to see you out there!
  • When we finish, we’ll rest, obviously. But, we’ll also celebrate! We’re going to enjoy some food and drinks on Saturday. On Sunday, we’ll rent bikes and explore the old Siamese capital. Again, everyone is welcome to join in the fun!

So, there it is. I have a feeling that this will prove to be a very good decision. See you on Saturday!
