Stockholm Marathon 2014

Stockholm Marathon 2014

Tomorrow (Saturday, May 31) it’s time to run a marathon again. Stockholm Marathon is a big race with 21,942 runners signed up for this year’s 42.195 km and 93 countries are represented.

Stockholm Marathon

The race is also the Swedish Marathon Championship for those qualified for it. I’m excited to run my first race on home soil in Sweden and to be one of approx 50 men competing in the Swedish champs (Svenska Mästerskapen, SM).

Preparations since my last marathon in early March have been ok. March wasn’t great, recovered from the marathon, had some injuries and colds. April was all about hard work, not much structure nor rest. Run just run! May has been more balanced, emphasis on quality and with a 2-week taper in the end of the month.

Arrived to Sweden 10 days prior race day, changing my training ground from the streets of Bangkok to the scenic Göta Kanal. It has been nice to run in cooler temperatures for a change, the Bangkok heat has been brutal in April and May. I now follow the weather forecasts closely, hoping for at least 15°C, no rain and not too windy on Saturday.

Preparing for Stockholm Marathon

As always, I don’t run 42 km just for the fun of it, I go all in. My starting number is 55 – HaHa (ห้า ห้า), is that a good or bad sign? The results as well as live reports with 5k splits will be available here. The race starts at noon local time (5.00 PM Thai time). Run Stockholm!
