Thailand Races – first weekend of November
Last weekend’s PTT Group Marathon in Rayong was dominated by Kenyan runners. Many of them who are based in southern Thailand or Malaysia are staying in the central regions of Thailand to race in Bangkok on Saturday and/or Sunday. There are two races of shorter distances this weekend, which both offer cash awards to the top finishers.
Thailand Iron-Man in Lumpini Park on Saturday is a 5k race where the first 5 males and females receive 5,000–1,000 Baht. No big money, but since it’s a short race it’s possible to recover and run the SCG 10k race on Sunday too. The SCG 100th Anniversary Charity Run takes places in the Bang Sue area of Bangkok, cash prizes up to 15,000 Baht for the 8 fastest runners (male & female).
There are more than Bangkok “sprint” races in Thailand this weekend. The Zulu W Run is an ultra race of 80k in Kanchanaburi, starting at midnight between Saturday and Sunday. The course is a 4k loop around a military area. Tempted to run a 4k loop 20 times? If not, there is a 10k category available as well, starting at 6.30 AM.
Furthermore, Chiang Mai is hosting a 10k race this weekend too. The PEA Mini Marathon starts at 6 Am outside the PEA (Provincial Electrical Authority) building.
For me, the tapering for the Bangkok Marathon has begun. This means three easier weeks leading up to the 42.2k on November the 17th. I’ll “stroll” the 10k on Sunday’s SCG race, aiming to keep even splits close to my target marathon pace.
