Winning Streak
Last Sunday I did my 4th consecutive Banyan Tree Vertical Marathon, a charity event celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. More than 500 pre-registrations together with a large number of on-site registrations, made the race fully booked with approx 700-800 participants.
I spotted some speedy runners before the race, including Kenyan rocket Nelson Kiptoo based in Hat Yai. Running up a skyscraper is obviously totally different from a flat race, so it’s really anyone’s race.
The running/climbing itself was a struggle as always. Even though it felt awful, I reached the Vertigo rooftop on the 61st floor in 6:31, a 5 second improvement of my previous PB. Since no one beat that time, I can now title myself 3 times champion of the Vertical Marathon.
I also did the relay where I ran the 4th and last leg (45-61st floor). I, Bryan, Craig and Randy finish 2nd, well behind the winning team.
I enjoyed this year’s race, nice people and a positive energy all through the event. I had a really good time, except for those 6:31 minutes in the staircase of course…
